You’ve secured the showstopper... now here is how to make the most of it!
First of all, a huge thank you to everyone who has placed an order for my cheesecakes this festive season. The kitchen is officially in full swing, and I cannot wait for these desserts to land on your tables.
And if you haven't ordered yet—firstly, why not?! 😉 But don't worry, there is still time to secure your showstopper!
We all know the absolute chaos of Christmas morning! If your house is anything like mine, you'll be playing a high-stakes game of "Fridge Tetris" trying to squeeze the turkey in, the oven will be working overtime, and you’ll probably be frantically searching for that jar of cranberry sauce you swear you bought.
So, to take one stress off your plate, I’ve put together a quick guide on how to store, slice, pair, and serve your Sally’s cheesecake so it tastes (and looks) absolutely perfect.
Winning at "Fridge Tetris" 🧊
One of the most common questions I get is: "How long will it last?"
• Keep it Boxed: To keep your cheesecake fresh and protected from other fridge smells (nobody wants a turkey-scented dessert!), keep it stored inside the box it came in.
• Shelf Life: Because I use fresh, premium ingredients, they are best enjoyed within 5 days of collection.
• The "Room Temp" Rule: For the best flavour, take the cheesecake out of the fridge about 20-30 minutes before serving. This allows the filling to soften slightly, making it creamier and releasing all those lovely flavours—especially for the Chocolate Orange and Baileys ones!
The Perfect Festive Pairings 🥂
Christmas is the time to indulge, so why not match your glass to your fork? Here are my top recommendations for what to drink with your dessert:
• For the Mince Pie Cheesecake: This rich, spiced flavour loves a warm companion. Try it with a glass of mulled wine or a cheeky sherry. The spices in the drink will hug the spices in the cheesecake perfectly.
• For the Chocolate Orange: The richness of chocolate needs something to cut through it. A strong black coffee or an Espresso Martini works wonders here.
• For the Baileys or Vanilla: You can’t go wrong with fizz. A glass of Prosecco or Champagne adds a sparkle that lifts the rich, creamy texture of the cheesecake.
• After Eight Mint: This is the ultimate dinner party finish. It pairs surprisingly well with a full-bodied Red Wine (like a Cabernet Sauvignon), or for a non-alcoholic option, a fresh Peppermint Tea creates a lovely cooling palate cleanser.
• Ferrero Rocher: Embrace the nuttiness! Serve this with a Hazelnut Liqueur over ice, or a creamy Latte. The coffee notes balance the sweetness of the hazelnut chocolate beautifully.
• Pigs in Blankets: Since this is our savoury beast, put down the dessert wine! This needs a cold pint of Pale Ale or a crisp Apple Cider to cut through the rich cheese and bacon.
Timing & Portions: When to Serve? 🕒
Cheesecake is incredibly versatile, and how you serve it depends on the occasion:
• The Main Event (Christmas Day Pudding): If this is your showstopper after the turkey, be generous! Serve a full wedge with a little pouring cream on the side.
• The Boxing Day Buffet: If you are grazing on leftovers or hosting a party, people often prefer "a little bit of everything." Try cutting your slices in half again to create "mini" wedges. It allows guests to have a sweet treat without committing to a full dessert.
• The "Coffee & Cake" Moment: Don't forget the quiet moments. A thin slice with a cup of tea on Christmas Eve (while wrapping the last presents!) is one of my favourite traditions.
The Secret to the Perfect Slice 🔪
Ever wondered how to get those clean, professional-looking slices without the filling sticking to the knife?
• The Hot Knife Trick: Fill a jug with hot water. Dip your sharpest knife in, wipe it dry with a paper towel, and then make your cut.
• Repeat: Wipe and dip the knife again between every single slice. It sounds like a faff, but trust me, it makes a huge difference to the presentation!
Can I Freeze It? ❄️
Got leftovers? (It’s rare, I know, but it happens!)
• Freezing: Yes! Most of our baked cheesecakes freeze beautifully for up to 1 month.
• How to Store: Keep the cheesecake in the box to protect it while in the freezer.
• Defrosting: When you are ready for a treat, accuracy is key. Take the cheesecake out the day before needed and place it in the fridge to defrost naturally. This ensures the texture remains perfect.
