Mothering Sunday: From Wildflowers to Handmade Cheesecake
March is just around the corner, and I am delighted to see the beginnings of springtime. March is certainly a busier time for me, as markets pick up and we look ahead to events such as Mothering Sunday, which falls on Sunday, 15th March 2026 in the UK.
If you are looking to order something sweet for the special women in your life, a handmade cheesecake is a wonderful way to celebrate. It is a day rooted in tradition, but did you know that the "Mothering Sunday" we celebrate here in Britain has its own unique history?
The history behind the day
Historically, this day was not about modern gifts, but about a mother church. Back in the 16th century, the mother church was the main church or cathedral of a specific region, or the church where a person was originally baptised. It was a tradition for people to return to this primary church for a special service on the fourth Sunday of Lent.
This was especially significant for domestic servants and young apprentices, who often lived far from home. Mothering Sunday was often the only day of the year they were allowed to leave their place of work to travel back to their home parish and visit their families. As they walked along the country lanes on their way home, they would pick bunches of wildflowers from the hedgerows to give to their mothers—a simple, handmade gesture of care that we still carry on in our community today.
The gift of variety: Our Mother’s Day box deals
While those early traditions involved wildflowers, I believe modern celebrations are all about sharing a moment together.
A box deal is a fantastic gift idea because it offers the gift of choice. Instead of one large cake, you can choose a selection of my signature bakes, ensuring there is a flavour for everyone to enjoy. Whether it is the Baked White Chocolate & Raspberry with its handmade coulis or the refreshing Baked Lemon & Curd, every single one is prepared with the same pride and care.
We offer a variety of cheesecake sizes to. Choose from:
* Mini Cheesecakes: £2 each or 5 for £10
* 3-inch Cheesecakes: £3.85 each, 4 for £14.80, or 6 for £22
* 9-inch Cheesecakes: £32.50
* 11-inch Cheesecakes: £42.50
Handmade with pride
As always, every cheesecake in your box is baked in a water bath at a low temperature. It is a slow, meticulous process, but it is the only way to ensure that signature velvety, creamy texture that makes a Sally’s Baked with Love treat so special.
I expect Mothering Sunday weekend to be very busy, so if you are planning a surprise for someone, please do get in touch early to secure your order.
