Get baking this Easter!
The Easter holidays are nearly here, and it is that time of year when we are all looking for creative, hands-on ways to keep the children entertained and away from their screens.
I have often found that a secret to keeping children happy is simply—invite them into the wonderful world of baking. You do not need a complicated recipe to make memories that taste as good as they look.

Easy Easter projects for little hands
If you are looking for a stress-free afternoon of baking, these cheesecake-inspired ideas are perfect because they focus on fun rather than perfection:
• Mini Egg Birds Nests: This is a classic for a reason. Melt down 200g of high-quality chocolate with 50g of butter and 2 tablespoons of golden syrup in a bowl over a pan of simmering water. Once that is all silky and smooth, you gently stir in 85g of crushed shredded wheat or cornflakes until every piece is completely coated. The syrup keeps the nests lovely and chewy rather than rock hard. You let the kids spoon the mix into 12 cupcake cases and press a little well in the centre of each. Once they have set, they can decorate the nests with a few colourful Mini Eggs. These are a pure Easter chocolatey treat that are easy to make.
• Easter Cheesecake Pots: If you have some of our cheesecake filling or want to make a simple whipped cream and cream cheese base at home, let the kids build their own dessert pots. Let them bash up some biscuits like digestives or Oreos for the base, then whip up a simple mix of cream cheese, a splash of vanilla, and a little icing sugar to spoon on top. Set up a decorating station with mini marshmallows, sprinkles, easter chocolates, and fruit sauces. Layer crushed biscuits at the bottom, add the creamy filling, and let them go wild with the toppings. From gooey Creme Egg chunks to pastel sprinkles, itis a great way for them to express their creativity.
• Decorative Easter Biscuits: Mix 125g butter and 55g caster sugar together until smooth, then stir in 180g plain flour to form a dough. Roll the dough out to about 1cm thick on a floured surface and let the kids use bunny and egg-shaped cutters to make their shapes. Place them on a tray and bake at 170°C for 15–20 minutes until pale golden. Once they are cooled, you can set out bowls of pastel-coloured icing and chocolate drops for the kids to decorate with. I always find that tasting as you go is half the fun!
Why it is worth the mess
Baking with children is about so much more than the end result. It reminds me so much of when I was younger, as it provides such a massive confidence boost when they can proudly show off something they have made themselves! It is a fantastic way for them to learn about measurements and patience while they wait for their creations to chill. Most importantly, that sense of pride they feel is what makes the whole experience so special.
